Sony's new product can show video images even when bent

The latest gadget from Sony.

(JT) Sony Corp said Thursday it has developed what it claims to be the world's first organic electroluminescence display that can show color moving images even when being bent. The company said its new display is only 0.3 millimeter in thickness and is made with plastic film to give it considerable flexibility, allowing people to crumple the display like a piece of paper.

Analysts said that with the latest development, Sony has taken the lead from other organic EL display manufacturers, most of whom are developing similar displays with harder plate glass that only show still images. Sony is positioning organic EL displays as the centerpiece of its advanced flat display development. The type of organic EL display being developed by its competitors is called "electronic paper."
