Lantau island - Enlightenment with the great Buddha

DSC_2423

Lantau is the largest outlying island in Hong Kong, almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island. More than half of Lantau Island has been designated as Country Park area. Its tranquil and green environment makes it a popular spot for nature lovers and hikers.

Nice hat :-)

Beginning at Ngong Ping Village, Hong Kong’s newest culturally-themed attraction, the walk includes stops at the stunning Giant Buddha, the Po Lin Monastery and the Wisdom Path. The suggested trail winds around the northern slopes of Lantau Peak. Descending easily into Tung Chung Valley, the trail passes woodland, mountain streams, an old fort and hillside monasteries. The airport, glimpsed in the distance, is a stunning contrast to the peaceful charm of this delightful rural area.

This hike begins at Ngong Ping Village on Lantau Island. To get there, take the MTR to Tung Chung station, then follow signs to nearby Skyrail Terminal and take the cable car to Ngong Ping. The Skyrail trip takes 20-25 minutes. Or, take bus 23 from the Tung Chung bus terminal to Ngong Ping. You can also take a ferry (about 50 minutes) from the Central Ferry Pier 6 to Mui Wo, then bus 2 to Ngong Ping. Both bus trips take about 50 minutes.
