62 Percent Of Malaysian Adults Access The Internet

This is something new. If only we have more and better ISP besides streamyx.

PETALING JAYA, Dec 19 (Bernama) -- An estimated 62 percent of Malaysia's adult population access the Internet directly either at home or at work as at June 2006, said ACNielsen Research Malaysia managing director Stephen Watt.

Watt said Internet access at home continued to grow each year.

"Based on our study, seven percent are regular users who use the Net at least once a week, 55 percent have occasional Net access and 41 percent do not directly use it.

"An average of six in 10 Malaysian adults log onto the Internet.

"The growing Internet penetration rate and efforts by the government to encourage greater adoption of Net usage is luring research-savvy marketers to conduct their local and international research via the Internet," he said at the launch of Malaysia Online Panel, "Your Voice" and the strategic partnership with Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank).

He said ACNielsen was delighted to have Maybank as its first partner given its current standing as a major local bank with the largest online banking customer base of close to 2.8 million per month.

"Under this arrangement, www.Maybank2u.com customers and portal visitors will be linked and redirected to ACNielsen's Your Voice portal upon clicking on a banner advertisement in the bank's online banking portal.

"The portal is designed to provide members with the forum to voice their opinions on current affairs, products and services via online surveys.

"The members will earn points each time they complete a survey and they can redeem them for gift items or charitable contributions in kind," he said.
