'Halal' Tag On Colgate Toothpaste Soon

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- Every pack of Colgate toothpaste, produced by Colgate-Palmolive, will have the "halal" tag soon, the company said in a statement Monday.

It said Colgate sold in Malaysia had always been "halal", of quality and manufactured according to the highest standard and did not contain any substance from animals.

The findings of an independent laboratory tests by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry showed the toothpaste was devoid of any animal DNA, it said.

It said Colgate Palmolive, operating in Malaysia for 50 years, had always respected the religious beliefs and practices of all its consumers.

In fact, the company liaised with Jakim with regard to halal product certification for its toothpaste, which had been endorsed as "halal" by the department, it said.

"Colgate-Palmolive will continue to work closely with Jakim and the ministry to ensure its toothpaste conforms to halal standards," it added.
